7 Useful Tips to Fix the Apple Watch not Charging Issue

1. Use the original Apple Magnetic Charging Cable

On the market, you can find a variety of third-party accessories with varying levels of quality. They are also priced differently.

Each third-party accessory provides undeniable compatibility with your Apple devices.

The problem is that not all third-party accessories are of high quality. Some are of poor quality and may harm your devices.

I’m sure you’ve heard of cases where the battery breaks or even explode due to the third-party accessories they use.

Hence, using the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable or USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable that came with your Apple Watch is essential.

If the original cable breaks, you can buy it at the online store. If you do decide to purchase a third-party accessory, make sure it is from a reputable brand.

2. Make sure the charging cable connects to the adapter properly

Check how you plug the charging cable into the power adapter. Make sure that it is connected properly. Then, you can plug the power adapter into the power source.

Besides, you need to verify that both the power adapter and power source are working fine.

3. Remove the plastic warp

If you are using a new wireless charger, make sure that you remove the plastic wrap from both sides of the charger.

Any materials placed between your Apple Watch and the charger can interfere with the charging process. In some cases, the Apple Watch is not charging.

4. Clean your Apple Watch

Make sure you clean your Apple Watch well before charging it.

Your Apple Watch uses a magnetic charger, so there is a magnet placed at the bottom of it. And magnets can attract debris that can interfere with the charging process.

You can use tissue and a toothbrush to clean your Apple Watch. After that, try to charge your Apple Watch. See if it can fix the Apple Watch not charging issue.

5. Put Apple Watch in the right position

6. Force restart your Apple Watch

If you still can’t charge your Apple Watch, try force restart.

To force restart your Apple Watch, press the side button and Digital Crown for 10 seconds. The Apple logo will appear on the watch face and you can release the buttons.

Then, try to charge your Apple Watch once again.

7. Update your Apple Watch to the latest software

If none of the tips above is able to fix the Apple Watch not charging issue that you are experiencing at the moment, you may need to contact Apple Support.

They can help you diagnose the problem and fix it right away.

However, if your Apple Watch is charging normally again, you may want to look at the useful tips below to maximize the performance of your Apple Watch.

How to improve your Apple Watch battery performance

Apple Watches use lithium-ion batteries. It is the latest battery technology that can charge fast, have a longer battery life span, be safe, and be light. This is by far the most advanced battery technology for your devices.

No matter how good the battery technology is, its function and battery capacity will diminish over time. As a result, the charging frequency will increase compared to the first time you use it. It is quite normal after a year or so.

Hence, follow the tips below to maximize the battery performance of your Apple Watch and extend the battery lifespan:

1. Update to the latest version

On a regular basis, Apple releases software updates for your devices, including the Apple Watch.

The latest updates contain bug patches that will increase the performance of your device as well as the battery.

Here’s how to update the watchOS on your Apple Watch:

Make sure that your Apple Watch is 50% charged before proceeding with the updates.

Option 1: From Apple Watch

Note: This method requires watchOS 6 or later.

1. Connect your Apple Watch to Wi-Fi.

2. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.

3. Tap Install if there is an update.

Leave your Apple Watch on a charger as it is completing the updates. Don’t restart your Apple Watch during the updates as it can cause brick.

Option 2: From iPhone

1. To check if an update is available, tap the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and go to My Watch > General > Software Update.

2. If you find an update, download it. You might need to insert a passcode to install the update.

3. Leave your iPhone and Apple Watch until the update is complete.

2. Turn on Power Saving Mode

You can use Power Saving Mode to prevent some apps from running in the background. Because your Apple Watch only runs the essential apps and services, it can help to extend battery life.

When your battery is low or you are working out, you can activate it.

Enabling Power Saving Mode while running or working out disables the heart rate sensor. This sensor is very active in checking your heart rate on a regular basis. Thus, the battery will last longer.

However, the notifications on your iPhone may not appear on your Apple Watch as you enable Power Saving Mode.

3. Keep Bluetooth enabled on iPhone

It may sound weird, but turning off the Bluetooth on your iPhone will affect your Apple Watch battery life. Why? It’s because your watch will keep searching for your iPhone and it can cause a battery drain.

Hence keeping Bluetooth enabled on your iPhone is the wisest way to extend your Apple Watch battery life.

4. Keep Apple Watch 50% charged

If you are not going to use your Apple Watch for the long term, it’s best to charge it to 50% before you save it.

If you charge it 100%, the liquid in the battery may leak and cause harm to the components.

5. Keep it cool

Heat is the natural enemy of a battery.

As a result, it is important to keep your device cool and avoid leaving it in a hot environment for an extended period of time, such as exposing it to direct sunlight.

6. Enable Optimized Battery Charging

Optimized Battery Charging is a feature on watchOS 7 that will analyze the daily use to increase the lifespan of your battery.

When you turn on this feature, your device will prevent charging past 80 percent in particular conditions. The battery level will stay between 75 percent to 80 percent. Your Apple Watch appears to be aware that it will be charged for an extended period of time. As a result, it restricts itself from being fully charged in order to protect the battery’s health.

To turn on this feature, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and turn on Optimized Battery Charging.
