Google Chrome web browser has just released an update. It finally reaches Chrome 100. This update includes security fixes and bugs patches. Besides, it improves performance and speed. Hence, you should update Google Chrome on your computer, Android, iPhone & iPad.
What’s new?
In the 100th release of Chrome, Google has tried to improve security so that you feel safe whenever you are browsing the internet. Here are the three main improved features on the latest version of Chrome:
1. Safety Check
This is a new level of security that Google puts in Chrome. This security feature allows you to protect your browser and password while being online with a Safety check. To use this feature, go to More (three-line dot) > Settings > Privacy and Security > Check now under the Safety check.
2. Enhanced Safe Browsing
Chrome wants to make sure that you are being protected from malware and phishing. To activate this feature, go to More (three-line dot) > Settings > Privacy and Security > Enhanced protection.
3. Control Access to Your Location
You might see that some websites that you visit sometimes are asking permission to use the microphone, your location, and more. This is quite scary. Chrome wants you to understand this, so it allows you to manage the permissions for the websites that you visit.
To control the permission of websites, click Lock on the address bar and change the permissions or click Reset permissions.
How to Update Google Chrome Browser on Windows and Mac
By default, Google Chrome will check the updates regularly. When an update is available, the browser will download it in the background and install it the next time you open the browser.
However, if you haven’t closed your Google Chrome web browser for quite some time, you might see a notification that the updates are pending.
On the three dots on the top right corner, you will see that the menu’s color has changed. There are three different colors that indicate how long the update is pending:
- Green: The update was released less than 2 days ago.
- Yellow: The update was released about 4 days ago.
- Red: The update was released at least a week ago.
When you see one of the colors on your browser’s menu, simply close and open your Google Chrome web browser. It will install the latest version of Chrome on your computer.
Update Google Chrome on Windows PC
If you haven’t opened your Google Chrome for a while, the browser may not have the latest update yet. To update your Google Chrome, here’s what to do:
1 Open the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
2 Click More or three-line dot at the top right.
3 Select Help > About Google Chrome.
4 Click Update Google Chrome. If you don’t see this button, you are either on the latest version or the downloading is in progress.
5 Click Relaunch.
The browser keeps all the opened tabs and will reopen them automatically once it launches. But, if you are opening incognito windows, Google Chrome cannot restore them.
In addition, you can postpone the restart by clicking Not now.
