What are the benefits of using S mode in Windows 11?
There are two main benefits that you can get if you are using S mode in Windows 11.
Good security: Since you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store, you won’t need to worry about the bad scripts, malware, or viruses that are hidden in the apps. Every app that is registered in the Microsoft Store has been checked in advance to make sure that they are safe and compatible with your device.
Better performance: Microsoft wants to give you the best experience in computing by providing apps that are compatible with your devices and support your best performance.
How to get S mode in Windows 11?
If you are using Windows 10 Home edition and it meets the minimum requirements, you can easily upgrade to Windows 11 in S mode.
However, if you are using Windows 10 Pro, Education, or Enterprise, you can’t get S mode in Windows 11 if you perform an upgrade. The reason is S mode is only available in Windows 11 Home edition.
Can I use Google Chrome or Firefox?
Yes, you can.
When you are using S mode in Windows 11, you can use Chrome or Firefox browsers but cannot change the default browser. Check Microsoft Store for other compatible web browsers.
However, Windows has set Microsoft Edge as the default browser and Bing is the default search engine. But you can still use other search engines like Google, DuckDuckGo, StartPage, and more.
Hence, if you want to make other web browsers the default web browser and other search engines the default search engine, you need to switch out of S mode in Windows 11.
Do I still need to install an antivirus if I use S mode?
Even though you’re restricted to only installing apps from Microsoft Store, you still need to install antivirus software on your computer.
Antivirus will help you keep your computer more secure and warn you whenever you open suspicious sites or when your important data is exposed.
