4. Turn off unused hardware

Turn off unused hardware such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and location services.

5. Uninstall unused software

Deleting any software that is not being used often will help reduce any background activity on your device and conserve battery power.

6. Place the Surface on a hard, flat surface

This ensures that the air vents on the bottom of your device are clear and free from any obstructions. This will help your device to experience better airflow and cool down more quickly.

7. Avoid using or charging at high temperatures

High temperatures accelerate the deterioration of lithium-ion batteries and permanently reduce their charging capability. It’s suggested to use Surface Pro and laptop between 32°F and 95°F (0°C-35°C). Keep your Surface away from the sun and out of hot cars.

8. Maintaining a high charge state

Charged batteries lose capacity quickly. Avoid leaving your Surface Pro or laptop connected to AC power for long periods of time. If you need to store your devices for a lengthy time, charge them to 50% before storage.

What is the Ideal Usage Time on a Charged Battery?

A fully charged battery should last for a day, but the battery life depends on the usage. For example, if the Surface laptop is used for internet browsing and video streaming, it will drain faster than usual.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It depends on the battery type, your Surface laptop usage, and the power plan you are using. Generally, the higher your Surface’s power usage, the more often you will need to charge it.

The ideal usage time on a charged battery is dependent on the device and the user. There are some Surface Pros & laptops that can last up to 15 hours on a single charge. However, there are other devices that only last 4-5 hours.

Surface Pro & Laptop usually have a battery life of up to 15 hours of typical usage which is enough for most people. But if you need to be away from an outlet for more than 8 hours, then it would be best to invest in a Surface model with extended battery life or use a charger during your travels.
