How to Force Restart iPhone 13 / 13 Pro Max / 13 Mini and Older Models

There are cases when you turn on your iPhone and it freezes on the Apple logo. When it happens, you can do a force restart on your iPhone to fix the problem. Hence, in this post, we will show you how to force restart iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Mini, and other older models.

How to Force Restart iPhone 13 / 13 Pro Max / 13 Mini

Frozen Screen or Black Screen

This process won’t erase the content on your device.

For iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 2022, iPhone 8, and 8 Plus models.

When you try to turn on your iPhone and it freezes on the Apple logo, here’s what to do:

1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.

2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.

3. Hold down the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

If your device is unresponsive or won’t turn on, let your device charge for a half-hour. 

For iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus,

Do these:

1. Press and hold both the Side button and the volume down button at the same time until your device restarts.

2. Your screen should go black, and then the Apple logo will appear.

If your phone doesn’t restart, you might need to charge it for a half-hour.

For iPhone 6s and earlier, including iPhone SE (1st Gen)

Are you still using the iPhone 6s and earlier, or iPhone SE (1st generation)? Follow these steps:

1. Press and hold both the Home button and the top or side button until your device restarts.

2. Your screen should go black, and then the Apple logo will appear.

Recovery Mode

If you can turn on your device, but it is frozen or stuck on the Apple logo or you see a red or blue screen, you need to go to the recovery mode. 

Before you start, there are a couple of things that you need to prepare:

• A Mac with macOS Mojave or macOS Catalina and later. Or, a Windows PC with iTunes installed.
• A compatible cable.
• Let your iPhone charge for an hour.
