How to Connect AirPods to Your iPad
1. Take your iPad and tap Settings.
2. Tap Bluetooth and turn it on.
Or, you can swipe down the top right of your iPad screen to open the Control Center and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.
3. Grab your AirPods and do the steps below depending on your headset model:
AirPods (1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and 3rd Gen) or AirPods Pro:
- Open the case lid but let the AirPods inside.
- Place your AirPods next to your iPad.
AirPods Max:
- Take out your AirPods Max from its Smart Case.
- Place your AirPods Max next to your iPad.
4. An animation will appear on your iPad’s home screen. Press Connect.
If you are using AirPods Pro, you might see some additional configurations like Siri, Announce Messages, and Spatial Audio.
5. Press Done.
After your AirPods and iPad are paired, you’ll be able to see how much the battery on your AirPods and the case left.
Note: Your AirPods are automatically connected to your other Apple devices like Macs, iPhones, and Apple Watches as long as they are signed in with the same Apple ID.

1 Change the name of your AirPods

If you want to make your headset more personal, you can use your name on your AirPods.
To change the name of your AirPods, do the following steps:
1. Connect AirPods to your iPad.
2. On your iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
3. Under My Devices, tap the “i” next to your AirPods to open the headset settings.
4. Tap Name and change it with your desired name.
5 Tap Done.
2. Turn on Automatic Ear Detection
Automatic Ear Detection is a smart feature that will sense if you put them in your ears. When you put the AirPods in your ears, the playback will play.
Once you take one of the AirPods from your ears, the audio will be paused. And when you remove all AirPods from your ears, the playback will stop permanently.
3. Change the double-tap settings
Note: It works on 1st and 2nd generations of AirPods
AirPods supports a double-tap feature with various functions like Siri, Play/Pause, Next Track, Previous Track, and Off. This feature works on both left and right AirPods. You can also set them to work differently. For example, you set the left AirPod for Siri and the right AirPod for Play/Pause.
To change the double-tap settings, do the following steps:
1. Connect AirPods to your iPad.
2. On your iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
3. Under My Devices, tap the “i” next to your AirPods to open the headset settings.
4. Under the Double-Tap on AirPod section, select left or right depending on which side you want to set.
5. Select the function that you want for each AirPod.
