Microsoft Edge is the default browser on Windows 11. It has a fresh design and more features which many users have been waiting for. It also has a better performance and uses less memory compared to other browsers. All of these improvements are given because Microsoft wishes it to become Windows users most favorite browser.
Hence, it’s quite hard to change the default browser on Windows 11 compare to the previous version. In the past, we only need a few clicks to change the default browser on Windows. Meanwhile, on Windows 11, you need to do a little effort to change the default browser.
If you want to change the default browser on your Windows 11 PC from Microsoft Edge to Google Chrome, Firefox, or another browser, follow the instructions below.

How to Change the Default Browser on Windows 11 PC
Note: In this tutorial, I’m going to use Google Chrome as an example. You can still follow the steps even though you are using a different web browser.
1. Download and install a new web browser that you want to use on your computer.
2. Open the Start menu and type settings.
3. Select Settings from the list of results.

4. Select Apps on the right pane and select Default apps on the left column.

5. In the Default apps window, go to Set defaults for applications and type Chrome.

6. Click Google Chrome from the list of results.
Starting from here, things are quite different than in the previous version of Windows. In the past, you only need to click one button and Windows will change the default app for all associated file types.
In Windows 11, you must set the default app for each file type individually. To change the default browser on a Windows 11 PC, replace Microsoft Edge with Chrome for each file type.

7. Click Microsoft Edge under .htm to change the default browser on your Windows 11 PC. Then, select Google Chrome and press OK.

8. Repeat step 6 for the other file types that you want to make the default to use Google Chrome.

Quick Tip
Set HTTP and HTTPS to Google Chrome

If you think that making Google Chrome the default app for all file types is a quite troublesome task to do, you can select HTTP and HTTPS, then set Google Chrome as the default app for both protocols.
It will change your default browser to Google Chrome even though you let other file types unchanged.
The next time you open a site, Windows 11 will open Google Chrome instead of Microsoft Edge.
And if you go to Google Chrome > Settings > Default browser, you will notice that Google Chrome has become your default browser now.
